Hello,
We have been working very hard since we came back from break. In Religion, we started a new chapter on Prayer. We have also been discussing the Christian way to react in real situations.
It is very, very important that each student memorize his/her multiplication and division facts. We should be practicing them every night! We have been discussing the way multiplication relates to division.
In Science, we have been studying minerals and the rock cycle. We did an inquiry activity which included rubbing serveral minerals across tile. We recorded the colors left behind and compared them to the colors which we had predicted. We also discussed the hardness and other properties of the minerals. Then I showed a power point and a flip chart about the cycle. We talked about ways in which minerals and rocks are used. This week, we will be comparing and contrasting soil to dirt.
In Reading class, we have been focusing on context clues, the words or sentences around the word, to figure out its meaning. We will be having a test over the story, The Author, on Thursday.
We should reread the story and study the vocabulary words.

Thank you to everyone who was able to come this morning for our prayer service. The students were very excited to see you. I was very proud of them.
This afternoon, we are going to watch a basketball game between the 8th graders and seminarians. After the game, the seminarians will be speaking about vocations.
Speaking about vocations, I had asked Father Wood if he would talk to the primary students about
his vocation. He came Wed., The students asked him some excellent questions.
Also, this month, Mrs. Manion from the New Elizabeth Life Center came and spoke about the services that the center provides. She let the children hold life size models of fetuses. They enjoyed holding them. Then we helped her take out all of the items that the class collected.
The center is very appreciative of the support that we provide them. Thank you to everyone who participated.
We will be having a reading test Tues. over the story, Wolf. Students need to study their vocabulary words and reread the story.
In math, we are almost finished with the subtraction chapter. Our next chapter is on multiplication.

We have had a great first week! The children are working hard and have already adjusted well to the 3rd grade routine. Please have your children review spelling and vocabulary words, as well as math facts each night. We will not have spelling words on short weeks. If you have any questions or concerns, you can e-mail me at the above address or write a note in the planner. If something is an immediate concern, please leave a message with Mrs. Ketch in the office, thanks.
